In 2018 Google created a new division called 'Create with Google'. Create with Google's purpose is to create a community to inspire and educate creatives on the potential of Google's large spread of platforms. A huge part of Create with Googles existence is the creation and supply of useful tools. One such tool is the YouTube Mockup Tool, aimed towards Creatives in the Videography and Advertising Industry.

Discovery Phase

We were brought in to Googles headquarters in Sydney thoroughly test, validate, and design a robust tool 'Creative Makers' could integrate into their workflow.

"Creative agencies are making huge budget TV ads for their big clients. The YouTube platform very much as an afterthought. They are essentially trimming down their 1.5 min ad into 30 seconds, without looking at how the ad format works, then wondering why the conversions are so low.”

The Task at hand

How might we create a seamless maker experience across all stages (inspire, pitch, build + learn) of the Create with Google process?

Interviewing

We interviewed makers from various creative agencies. We then created assumptions and a user archetype.

Ideation

We held a sketching workshop to ideate solutions. Voting on the most popular ideas and creating prototypes for user testing.

Prototyping a tool

Prototypes were created and tested with 'makers' from various agencies. Multiple rounds led to multiple iterations and refinement.
